Ministry Profile for Peter Day
My Christian ministry background both in New Zealand and Australia has a wide area of diversity in ministry, over the last 30 years. It includes being a Bible Class Leader, a Sunday school teacher, Youth Leader, and heading up the social activities of my church for the youth group both at Palmerston North Central Baptist, AOG Christian Family Palmerston North and Christian Outreach Centre, Brisbane.
Here in Palmerton North in 1977, I was also involved with the formation and involvement of two Youth Chorales, one of which one won the ‘Youth For Christ’ talent quest two years in a row. Also the same chorale won the regional talent quest for the Central District Baptist churches talent quest.
In 1980 I went to be involved in full time Youth Ministry in Australia where I worked in full time and part time youth ministry in a leadership role in all areas of Youth Work for 10 years.
In Australia I was further involved with three Gospel Singing Groups, Church Choir, Youth Choir, and a street outreach Gospel Group and team that presented the Gospel via music drama, and street witnessing on the streets of Brisbane and other parts of Australia. I was also involved with several musicals my church in Australia put on and I guess is where my music ministry really took off.
Between the years 1983 and 1986, I was on the team of the church’s Christian outreaches and the youth’s country evangelism teams, which involved planting new churches throughout Australia, in Newcastle, Taree, Tamworth, Gosford, Kempsey, Port Macquarie and many others. I was chosen as part of a Youth Team, out of 150 that applied, to plant new churches in the Solomon Islands.
1984-1986 I was on the church staff at COC Brisbane working with our youth pastor Craig Anderson in the Youth Dept. I also assisted in promoting the youth’s social events
For two years, 1983-1985 I was also a Leader of a ‘Youth Men’s Community Home’ in Brisbane which, was one of five set up for new Christian youth, men and women.
On my return to New Zealand, I was involved with an AOG church for a year on an internship Youth Pastor programme in 1991.
In 1992 the Lord opened up the doors for me to return to my home church, that I was brought up in, the Central Baptist Church in Palmerston North. Here began my music ministry in writing and producing my own musicals. Esther – A New Musical’, ‘Arise My Love’ and an adaption of Kathy Hill’s ‘We like Sheep’, ‘The Prisoners’ and Mr ‘Noah’. ‘In the Shadow of Messiah’ (the life of King David), and coming up soon ‘Joshua – A Song of Deliverance’
